How to show all comments in the admin>>manage >> comments section
Hi,

Need help on this.

I encountered a problem on how to show all comments on all the 6 pages
in the "manage >> comments" section

I have a total of 1000+ comments from 6 page

But right now it only shows 50 comments from one (1) page.

I want to edit the comments in the other 5 pages as well.

Commentics on different pages with one database?

Hello everybody,

first, soory for my english, I´m coming from Germany. I hope my thread is right here.
I got a question: I´m running an affiliate page for books and other stuff and I need a comment script. Then, I´ve seen Commentics. But how can I use one database on many pages on my server? Can I use one database? My webspace hoster doesn´t supports more than 10 databases, but I need more than 10 databases.
What can I do?

Database Name showing

Error reporting was turned on, no errors showing.

I just installed it and the database names shows both above the comment form and in the admin panel just above "dashboard".

I am using v2.3, just installed it on my local computer 2 days ago and all was perfect. But just now I installed it on my remote server.

Couldn't find a fix in the docs or on the forum.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

Dear Support!

My name is Varga Zoltán from Hungary! I have my own site (http://www.vargamuhely.com), similar to a normal blog, contains several entries per page. I installed the commentics, works great as a comment option per page, but I would like to multiple this option for under each posts. I am a sculptor without any deep php knowledge…but I followed the guide (excellent!) on this site, so I successfully created the dataset, insert the scripts…. I have a desire to be a comment option under each post. Is it possible to do, and if it possible…how can I do this?

email / RSS - getting it straight

Steven, hi - I don't find an explanation of how the email & RSS options play out, and it seems that as detected "admin" I can't really test them out... I'm hoping you could give a covers-all explanation so I'm sure not to tell my viewers something wrong. (This would be useful laid out somewhere - in FAQ?)

This is what I -surmise- from looking at the bits and pieces in the admin panel - is this right? [and some questions within]:

--EMAIL: comes from the "Notify me of new comments via email" checkbox option; commenter checking it leads to Subscriber Confirmation email being sent; then after confirmation, every single new approved comment goes to them one by one? [would be so nice if they were batched! - weekly? a choice?]
[and: If I choose auto-approval, does every comment go out one at a time? - even if awful, hm. But if I choose manual approval, then I get/have to manually OK the sending of these to those who signed up for new comments by email.]

--RSS: comes from the "[RSS icon] This Page" or "[RSS icon] All Pages" being clicked [this can be by an interested non-commenter?], which open an RSS feed box in commenter's default email program; sends RSS [but how often? - I couldn't see a setting for this]
[and... Does it send -all- comments (up to the # specified in admin panel, 30 being default) or only those related to the specific comment under which these links are displayed? I would have expected the RSS option for "All Pages" would be listed alongside the "Notify me...email" option, thinking that email and RSS are usually side-by-side options as 2 means of transmission of the same thing - so this is confusing.]
[and: in Settings - RSS... What is the "image URL" for an image in the header on a given page? - including some suffix I don't know about? Or is this telling me that I have to upload the graphic I want to use to a webpage of its own and put in that URL? - and then Commentics grabs it and reduces it to a super-tiny size? (I've never done RSS - what are the size limitations?)]

Don't Create Page Until Comment

The default setting are that when the Comment Form is opened on a new page, a page is automatically created in the Commentics database.

Did I see somewhere to delay creating the page until after someone has first made a comment?

I can't seem to find this for the life of me!

Custom Integration with TNG - advice needed

Hi Steven, I'm preparing a second installation of Commentics into my second website. It's a personal genealogy website (Chambers Family Ancestry) that uses TNG software (The Next Generation of Genealogy Site Building). The program is written mostly in PHP and is a huge piece of software.

To my knowledge there are no other TNG websites that has Commentics added in. Thus I'll be the first.

I will be installing the Comments on the Individual persons only pages (a total of 961 people). The PHP page that generates the Individual person (such as my Great Great Great Grandfather - Charles Hamilton Chambers) is called getperson.php and I have isolated the PHP script that calls in just the name only.

What I need advice with is: when creating a new Comments page, Commentics is set up to pull in the page Title . However, in TNG the automatically generated page title will be far too much information to use with Commentics.<br /> <br /> For example, if I were to install Commentics at Chambers Family Ancestry, it would pull in the title of each person such as:<br /> <div class="codeblock"> <div class="title">Code:<br /> </div><div class="body" dir="ltr"><code><title>CHAMBERS, Charles Hamilton b. 18 Apr 1829 Blount County, Tennessee, United States d. 20 Sep 1880 Blount County, Tennessee, United States: Chambers Family Ancetsry
I want Commentics to import only the name of the person without all the other data.

My question is, exactly where in Commentics can I change the specific script to call in a custom page Title?

Any advice will be most appreciated.

Also, one more question. I see a lot of nice and important changes coming in the next version of Commentics. When do you suppose you'll be releasing this next version?

migration from an other comment script

Hello!

I like your comment script very much, much better than the current which I use, much more feature. I wonder if there is someone who could migrate my current comments (about 20.000 in about 200 pages) from my current comment script to commentics. Of course, I would pay for this.
I know that these would require basically sql commands. I know sql commands. But I am pretty sure there would be some problems / incompatibilites.
Do you have any advice on this, or could someone do this for me for money?

Hello-- After much ado, I've gotten to the point where I can access the Commentics admin panel on the server. I've pretty thoroughly perused previous forum threads about this problem; have checked with my web host to ensure that all parameters needed are in their configuration; have gone over and over the 3 webpage codings necessary... to no avail - no form shows up on the one page I've put the codes into (in the right places, I would swear).

[My WYSIWYG editor (BlueGriffon) refuses to save the pre- code, drat it - but I added it to the page via my cPanel editor - and will presumably have to do this every single time I update this page, which I expect to do often - aargh! The editor likewise will not allow the stacked-lines php coding - keeps running it all together on one line, no matter what I think of to try - but I've repaired -that- in the cPanel editor too... just in case that was quirking things up.]

I've added the "AddHandler" coding to an .htaccess file in /public_html/, which the /comments/ directory is under - have tried -both- versions given in your "Integration" documentation under "HTML Pages". Your documentation doesn't tell explicitly how to structure this file, so I just put that line like this (copying the example):

AddHandler x-httpd-php5-cgi .html .htm .shtml

(I really wanted to add ".xhtml" to the end of that string ;^) - rather, I did...and then I took it out again, -just in case-!)

Still, I've even tried renaming the page (ideas.html) to ideas.php - but when I then typed the page URL into my browser, it merely showed a blank white screen instead of the full-of-stuff page. ??

I've also tried putting the "../" before "comments/", in case I was misinterpreting your statements about files being "in a directory" (because your definition of "root" as "public_html" was different from my understanding, so who knows)... But as this didn't change anything, I took those back out again.

One trouble may be that there are so many interrelated bits and pieces, I may have not truly scientifically tested every possibility, or had -2- things out of whack at once... If the mistake lies there, I'm sorry - I truly didn't want to have to bother you with this. (Have already spent a few days going back and forth with my webhost to get to the point of accessing the admin panel - darn, I thought I was home free! But, during that painful episode, I checked and rechecked all those files - so hopefully they're all there and okay. In any case, the admin panel is still working.)

I wondered whether there could be a -conflict- between the -2- meta-http-equiv lines that are now in this page:

The second one was already there, and your documentation doesn't mention that situation, so there are now both. (I believe I even did try removing it, though at this point I wouldn't swear to that one.)

Do you have an inkling of what is holding this up? (I'm not a coder - big surprise.) The URL is http://www.weekendofnoblame.info/ideas.html

E-mail field not working

When I enter text or variables in the content field for e-mail notification, it is not saved. Thus e-mail notifications have an empty body.

After clicking update in the admin settings, I am returned to the same page with an empty field. The other fields are saved as expected. This happens for e-mail notifications for both admin and for users.

Any idea what is wrong and how to correct it?

Clean URL's issue?

Does the script have any issues with clean url's?

The comments script works fine when the url is like :
http://www.example.com/news.php?sid=100

My clean url (for the above url) looks like this :
http://www.example.com/100/the-news-title/

However, when I turn on clean URL's, all my social buttons (facebook like, tweet, google+) are now showing the share results of my main page (http://www.example.com) and not the specific news item like it normally does.

It's like "/100/the-news-title/" part is being internally stripped out - but the url bar still shows it.

Also, when I try to submit a comment, the url is rewritten to :

Not sure why the comments script is adding the "?sid=100".

verifying email address

Hello,

Is there a way to send a mail to user for approving his own comment? By doing this I want to verify his email address. I need to do this because I see some fake comments in the system with suspicious email adresses.

Can I do it by modifying the subscriber confirmation process or is it a hard work?

Thumbs Up/Down Buttons: grey scale

Here's a couple thumbs up/down buttons I've changes in my Comments. I changed the buttons to grey scale and then added a corresponding red/green stripe to the sleeve. Red sleeve stripe: thumbs down. Green sleeve stripe: thumbs up.

Just wanted to share if anyone else wants them.

Improved Manage Comments Addon

I found it was taking way too much time to delete un-wanted comments / spam.

So what I have done was add a checkbox feature so you are able to "mass delete" comments.

When you hit the "Delete Selected" button, a confirm dialog box will appear. As you can see in the screenshot, I've also added "Check All / Clear All" links.

The delete feature works exactly the same as if you were to delete the comment the old way - All replies attached to the comment will also be deleted.

I have extensively tested this and it works great, but with that said : ** Use at your own risk! **

Requirements
Commentics v2.3

Installation Instructions
1) Download the attached file at the bottom of this post
2) Backup your /comments/admin/includes/pages/manage_comments.php file
3) Copy the new manage_comments.php (overwriting the old file)

admin detection not 100% working

According to that page, I should be able to comment without having to approve it before it shows up.

The form shows the green admin button, but it still gives me the message : Thank you - Your comment is awaiting approval.

I do however have the setting "Approve Comments" enabled in (Settings > Approval).

Does this matter?

Steven, I don't think it's something I've done, but it may be something I'm overlooking in the admin Settings.

I went to one of my test Comments and noticed that the the "Sort by:" looked a bit barren. The drop down menu appears, but no text next to it. I search for the text and found it located in english/fields.php file as 'CMTX_FIELD_LABEL_SORT_BY'. However, the text isn't showing up on the Comment form.

I went into Line 382 of /includes/template/comment.php added "Sort by: " and now the text appears to the left of the drop down menu.

In admin Comments: Sort By is enabled.

Is this a bug, or is there something I'm overlooking?
