Upgrade

Preamble: Before starting the upgrade, backing up both your database and your site files is of great importance.

Note: You may need to clear your browser cache after the upgrade.

1.7 -> 1.8

1. Put the script in maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).
2. Back up your database (Tools -> Database Backup) and your files.
3. In the v1.8 download, do the following:
- rename the admin folder comments/admin/ to match your renamed admin folder.
- enter your database details in comments/includes/db/details.php
- delete the files in comments/includes/words/ except for admin_tips.txt
- delete the folders in comments/includes/emails/ except for /dutch/
4. On your server set normal file permissions (644) for comments/includes/db/connect.php
5. Upload the comments folder onto your existing comments folder to overwrite everything.
6. On your server set read-only file permissions (444) for comments/includes/db/details.php
7. Run the upgrade http://www.domain.com/comments/installer/
8. Log in to your admin panel and make sure everything is working.
9. Take the script out of maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).

1.6 -> 1.7

1. Put the script in maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).
2. Back up your database (Tools -> Database Backup) and your files.
3. In the v1.7 download, do the following:
- rename the admin folder comments/admin/ to match your renamed admin folder.
- delete the folder comments/includes/db/
- delete the files in comments/includes/words/ except for admin_tips.txt
- delete the folders in comments/includes/emails/ except for croatian, slovenian and thai
- delete the folders in comments/agreement/ except for croatian, slovenian and thai
4. Upload the comments folder onto your existing comments folder to overwrite everything.
5. Run the upgrade http://www.domain.com/comments/installer/
6. Log in to your admin panel and make sure everything is working.
7. Take the script out of maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).

1.5 -> 1.6

1. Put the script in maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).
2. Back up your database (Tools -> Database Backup) and your files.
3. In the v1.6 download, do the following:
- rename the admin folder comments/admin/ to match your renamed admin folder.
- delete the files in comments/includes/words/ except for admin_tips.txt
- delete the folder comments/includes/emails/
- open comments/includes/db/connect.php and enter your database details.
4. On your server rename the new_comment_flag.txt file in comments/includes/emails/ to new_flag.txt
5. On your server set normal file permissions (644) for comments/includes/db/connect.php
6. Upload the comments folder onto your existing comments folder to overwrite everything.
7. On your server set read-only file permissions (444) for comments/includes/db/connect.php
8. Run the upgrade http://www.domain.com/comments/installer/
9. Log in to your admin panel and make sure everything is working.
10. Take the script out of maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).

1.4 -> 1.5

1. Put the script in maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).
2. Back up your database (Tools -> Database Backup) and your files.
3. In the v1.5 download, do the following:
- rename the admin folder comments/admin/ to match your renamed admin folder.
- delete the folder comments/includes/db/
- delete the files in comments/includes/emails/ except for language/admin/new_comment_flag.txt
- delete the files in comments/includes/words/ except for admin_tips.txt
4. Upload the comments folder onto your existing comments folder to overwrite everything.
5. Run the upgrade http://www.domain.com/comments/installer/
6. Log in to your admin panel and make sure everything is working.
7. Take the script out of maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).

1.3.5 -> 1.4

1. Put the script in maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).
2. Back up your database (Tools -> Database Backup) and your files.
3. In the v1.4 download, do the following:
- rename the admin folder comments/admin/ to match your renamed admin folder.
- delete the folder comments/includes/db/
- delete the files in comments/includes/emails/ except for language/admin/reset_password.txt
- delete the files in comments/includes/words/ except for admin_tips.txt, banned_towns.txt, dummy_towns.txt and reserved_towns.txt
4. Upload the comments folder onto your existing comments folder to overwrite everything.
5. Run the upgrade http://www.domain.com/comments/installer/
6. Log in to your admin panel and make sure everything is working.
7. Take the script out of maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).

1.3 -> 1.3.5

1. Put the script in maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).
2. Back up your database (Tools -> Database Backup) and your files.
3. In the v1.3.5 download, do the following:
- rename the admin folder comments/admin/ to match your renamed admin folder.
- delete the folder comments/includes/db/
- delete the folder comments/includes/emails/
- delete the folder comments/includes/words/
- delete the folder comments/includes/language/
4. Upload the comments folder onto your existing comments folder to overwrite everything.
5. Run the upgrade http://www.domain.com/comments/installer/
6. Log in to your admin panel and make sure everything is working.
7. Take the script out of maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).

1.2 -> 1.3

1. Put the script in maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).
2. Back up your database (Tools -> Database Backup) and your files.
3. In the v1.3 download, do the following:
a) Rename the admin folder comments/admin/ to match your renamed admin folder.
b) Enter your database details in comments/includes/db/connect.php
c) Delete the files in comments/includes/words/ except for admin_tips.txt and detect_links.txt
4. On your server set normal file permissions (644) for comments/includes/db/connect.php
5. Upload the comments folder onto your existing comments folder to overwrite everything.
6. On your server set read-only file permissions (444) for comments/includes/db/connect.php
7. Run the upgrade http://www.domain.com/comments/installer/
8. On your server delete the following files and folders:
a) comments/includes/language/comments.php
b) comments/includes/language/database_errors.php
c) comments/includes/language/form.php
d) comments/includes/language/page.php
e) comments/includes/language/processor.php
f) comments/agreement/privacy_policy.html
g) comments/agreement/terms_and_conditions.html
h) comments/includes/emails/admin/
i) comments/includes/emails/user/
9. Log in to your admin panel and make sure everything is working.
10. Add your signature to your emails (Settings -> Email)
11. Take the script out of maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).

1.1 -> 1.2

1. Put the script in maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).
2. Back up your database (Tools -> Database Backup) and your files.
3. In the v1.2 download, do the following:
- rename the admin folder comments/admin/ to match your renamed admin folder.
- delete the folder comments/includes/db/
- delete the folder comments/includes/emails/
- delete the files in comments/includes/words/ except for admin_notes.txt and admin_tips.txt
4. Upload the comments folder onto your existing comments folder to overwrite everything.
5. Run the upgrade http://www.domain.com/comments/installer/
6. Log in to your admin panel and make sure everything is working.
7. Take the script out of maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).

1.0 -> 1.1

1. Put the script in maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).
2. Back up your database (Tools -> Database Backup) and your files.
3. In the v1.1 download, do the following:
- rename the admin folder comments/admin/ to match your renamed admin folder.
- delete the folder comments/includes/db/
- delete the folder comments/includes/emails/
- delete the files in comments/includes/words/ except for reserved_emails.txt and reserved_websites.txt
4. Upload the comments folder onto your existing comments folder to overwrite everything.
5. Run the upgrade http://www.domain.com/comments/installer/
6. Log in to your admin panel and make sure everything is working.
7. Take the script out of maintenance mode (Settings -> Maintenance).

To take advantage of utf-8, add this inside the head tag of your pages:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/>
